Roleplay Definitions

In this section you will find definitions for common terms referenced through out this RP rules document.

Meta Gaming

Meta gaming is a term used in roleplaying games, including FiveM roleplay, to describe the act of using out-of-character (OOC) knowledge to influence in-character (IC) actions or decisions. In other words, metagaming occurs when a player uses information that their character wouldn't realistically know to gain an advantage in the game.

For example, if a player learns about an upcoming event or hidden location through out-of-character channels such as Discord or forums, and then their character suddenly knows about it and acts upon it in-game without any in-character justification, that would be considered metagaming.

Metagaming is generally discouraged and may be against the rules on many roleplaying servers, as it can disrupt immersion and fairness in the roleplay environment. Players are encouraged to keep their in-character and out-of-character knowledge separate and to only act based on what their character would realistically know.

Power Gaming

Power gaming is a term used in roleplaying games, including FiveM roleplay, to describe the act of forcing unrealistic actions or behaviors on other players or characters without allowing them a reasonable chance to respond or roleplay their character's reactions.

In essence, power gaming involves prioritizing the outcome of a situation over the roleplay experience, often resulting in unfair advantages for the player's character.

Examples of power gaming include:

  • Ignoring another player's roleplay responses or actions.
  • Enforcing actions on other characters without giving them a chance to react or respond.
  • Constantly pushing for a specific outcome or result without considering the roleplay context or other players' perspectives.

Power gaming is generally frowned upon and may be against the rules on many roleplaying servers, as it can disrupt immersion and fairness in the roleplay environment. Players are encouraged to prioritize collaborative storytelling and roleplay interactions over individual success or dominance.

RDM (Random Deathmatch)

RDM, or Random Deathmatch, is a term used in FiveM roleplay to describe the act of killing other players' characters without a valid in-character reason or without engaging in roleplay interactions.

In essence, RDM involves initiating combat or attacking other players without any prior roleplay interaction or justification. This can include shooting, stabbing, or otherwise causing harm to other characters without a legitimate in-character motive.

RDM is strictly prohibited on most FiveM roleplay servers, as it disrupts the immersive and collaborative nature of roleplaying. Engaging in RDM can result in disciplinary action, including warnings, temporary suspension, or permanent banning from the server.

Players are encouraged to engage in roleplay interactions and conflicts in a realistic and meaningful manner, rather than resorting to random violence against other players' characters.

VDM (Vehicle Deathmatch)

VDM, which stands for Vehicle Deathmatch, is a term used in FiveM roleplay to describe the act of using vehicles as weapons to intentionally harm or kill other players without a valid in-character reason.

In essence, VDM involves using a vehicle to cause harm to another player's character, typically through running them over or ramming into them, with the intent to cause harm or death.

VDM is strictly prohibited on most FiveM roleplay servers, as it goes against the principles of fair and realistic roleplay. Engaging in VDM can result in disciplinary action, including warnings, temporary suspension, or permanent banning from the server.

Players are encouraged to use vehicles responsibly and to avoid using them as weapons against other players, instead focusing on immersive and collaborative roleplay interactions.
